The Countdown Begins…6 days until release day

THECOUPLE333x500

In honor of my debut releasing in 7 days, I’m offering a $15 GC from either Amazon, B&N, MuseItUp, or Book Depository on my release day.  Follow my posts for the next seven days.  On each day, they will be themed.  Just tell me what all 7 seven themes were during the week and on my actual release day just write them in the comment section.  Easy peasy.  Good luck!  Here’s the link to yesterday’s blog if you missed it.  Yesterday’s Post

The official countdown has begun.  Only 6 days until my debut releases from MuseItUp Publishing.  Today’s topic is….oh wait…yall have to figure it out for the GC.  Sorry!

Anyway…so I wrote a book.  I’m proud of it.  Someone at a publishing house liked it; bought it and now it will soon be in the hot little hands of readers all around the world.  As most people know, writing is a solo act between a person and their thoughts.  So what happens when people start asking you about your writing and the book itself?  Do you tell them the full-blown synopsis or just the blurb?  And just who do you tell.  I’m not talking about your Twitter followers or your Facebook “friends” or even your family.  I’m talking about your friends and co-workers.  You know, the people you see, talk to and interact with in your community?  Did I hit a sore spot?

What do you tell your neighbors, people you go to church with (if you do), parents at your kid’s school?  I mean how do you bring up the fact that you just wrote a romance book that will be published in less than week at your kid’s basketball practice?  That’s my problem.  I live in Texas, east Texas to be exact.  Very conservative and red.  Nothing wrong with it, I vote red on most issues but I do live in the Bible Belt.  I live about 15 minutes from Tyler, TX and they just past a vote that you can buy beer and wine at the store.  You can get drunk at a restaurant but you couldn’t buy a six pack at the grocery store and then go home.  Yes, I know…very backwards.  But hey, that’s the Bible Belt.

As for co-workers I don’t have any.  When we moved over the summer, I stopped working outside the home.  Most of my old co-workers knew that I reviewed and blogged.  I never shared with them that I was writing a book.  Again, conservatism.  Now, my husband’s assistant manager is a woman and OMG, guess what?  She reads smut, too.  She can not wait to read it.  Bad thing is, she doesn’t have a reading device.  She prefers holding the hardback or paperback.  I will have to give her a printed out copy or let her borrow my Kindle.  She has already “borrowed” from the Harlie library and she is not done yet.  Poor husband has to hear our discussions about books when they are working together and I show up.  :)  Oh, she read the whole 50 Shades series and said it was okay.  I let her read some of the Wicked Ties series from Ms. Black.  Yep, enough said.  I’m evil that way.

So tell me, how did you handle situations like this?  I’ve heard that some authors friends and co-workers were awesome.  Pimped for them but then I’ve heard that some have never said a word about their writing.

  1. I would spread the word for you and plan a release party that would take place the next month:)

  2. I have no problem telling people I write books. I don’t work outside the home, and I’ve shared with numerous people about it. Hell, I even told my son’s teachers what I did while he was at school, LOL. People are entitled to their opinion, so their reactions can be whatever they want, i don’t care.

    Happy countdowning! :)

  3. I am all for planning a release party for January because it will rock, just like The Couple and it’s author! :)

  4. I would spread the news to everyone I know about the book. Once the rush from the holidays are over have a release party.

  5. Let people know that the holidays are especially exciting for you because of your upcoming release and have a party or some kind of event to commemorate it…sort of a birth- day bash.

  6. Promote it! I think you can find a way to tell people what you write about without giving away specifics. I tailor it for the audiance. If I know they’re okay with sexy stuff, I tell them more. I’ve disovered that most people I encounter are thrilled to learn that I write erotic romance. I will promote other authors just like I hope they’ll promote me. BTW Ms. Black is one of my favourites!!! Good Luck Harlie.

  7. That’s always a fine line between bragging and letting people know what you are doing, I think that if people ask…by all means, let them see your joy! I hope you are doing a blog hop or something similar to get the word out to people who are interested and congrats again!
