Springtime in the Country Blog Hop w/a $100 GC giveaway

springtimecountrybloghop

What signifies Spring to me?  I live in Texas so its Bluebonnets.  That and baseball.  I’m originally from Oklahoma but I have lived in Texas for most of my life.  I live in East Texas now where the trees are already budding and my allergies are running amok now.  But you know what?  I wouldn’t live in Dallas again.  Too much smog and I was constantly sick with something.  Where I live now…I can walk outside and take a breath and feel connecting to the earth.  Can I deal with my allergies?  Sure I can.

Here is a “deleted” scene from my debut The Couple.  Enjoy…

Heroine’s POV from The Couple:

Maybe my girlfriend’s think I’m cracked.  Trying to hook up with a cowboy in the last place I need to be…a bar.  They just don’t understand that I’m truly lonely and need a night where I can forget, be pleasured to where I’m either begging for him to stop because it’s too much or for more.  I have needs and I can’t help that they have men at their beck and call 24/7.  This is my life not theirs.  I haven’t been tied up in a while and tonight is the night.

Where is that cowboy that I keep seeing in the bar?  He almost had me last month, but I left him hanging and hard.  He He!  I don’t plan on doing that this time.  I want his jeans around his ankles, me on my knees and him screaming my name when he comes.  I want my hair pulled, spread eagle on his bed and screaming his name.

Now where is he?  Oh wait, there he is and damn, he is hot!

Cowboy Casanova Giveaway Hop Feb. 12th-16th

Cowboy Casanova Giveaway Hop

For the hop, I’m posting a hidden gem from The Couple.  I was challenged to write 250 words that weren’t included in the story.  Its not a “deleted” scene, just one that I never included into the story.  Maybe I should have.  LOL!  My cowboy is an Ag Teacher at the local high school.  For you city folk, he teaches Agricultural to high school students.  He is also in charge of FFA (Future Farmers of America) and the local 4-H club.  The hero in the story is based off my cousin in law.  And yes, he is an Ag teacher.

Hero’s POV from The Couple:

Why am I here?  I ask myself that question all the time when I come home from being on the road.  Stock shows used to be fun but not anymore.  They seem to suck the life out of me and the damn kids don’t seem to care sometimes.  Don’t they realize that this is their future when they are showing their animals?  $10,000 is a lot of money towards college these days.  I know it’s not sexy to stand in a pen full of crap but showing my pigs is what put me through college.  I really want to slap them upside their heads.

Back to the task at hand…where is that redhead I saw last month?  Damn, she has an ass that won’t quit.  Plus, I really need to find out if she is a true fire crotch or not.  Or as my buddies say, do the drapes match the carpet?  I’ve been so close to having her in my bed but this time I will not fail.  I have more than an itch to scratch this time.  After tying up animals all week, I really need to tie her up.  Preferably naked, spread eagle and begging me for more.  Yep, she’ll do.

giveawayMy giveaway is an e-copy of The Couple and bookmarks.  Just leave a comment and email to win.  :)  Good Luck!

I admit that I forgot to post today so it will be short.  :(  Bad blogger that I am.
Since we are talking about the holidays, I can’t wait for next week.  I will be in Dallas staying with my folks for 5 1/2 days.  I love going home.  I can lay around and not do a thing if I want or hang with my friends that I left behind when we moved to the sticks 7 years ago.  My dad has decided that one of those days will be a Guy Only Day.  Just my hubs, our son, nephew and him doing guy things all day long.  Since my mom is housebound now, I’m not sure what I will be doing.  I thought about hanging out with my Bestie Elaine but she has to work.  Boo!  I might go get a deluxe mani but I’m not sure.  Knowing me, probably not a darn thing.  LOL!
So what are you plans for Thanksgiving?  BTW, its Sunday in East Texas and its 82 degrees.  Crazy huh?

I can not believe that we only have 40 days left until Christmas morning.  *head desk*  Not one thing bought yet.  I know that some people already have their shopping done.  Not us.  At least this year, we have a clue what we are doing which is a big step for us.  We are shopping this weekend and will take care of most of Brian’s (our son) stuff.
I’m late today with the post and I’m sorry.  Got a question for you today instead of a recipe.  What is your all time favorite Christmas movie?  For me its easy.  The original Miracle of 34th Street.  It features two of my all time favorite actresses:  Natalie Wood and Maureen O’Hara.
Coming in a close second is Christmas Vacation.  This movie is a classic because you know that in your own neighborhood there is a house that decorates just like Clark.  LOL!
So tell me what your favorite Christmas movie is in the comments and when the hop is over, I will give you a copy of my debut, The Couple.  Good luck!

I can not believe that we only have 41 days left until Christmas morning.  *head desk*  Not one thing bought yet.  I know that some people already have their shopping done.  Not us.  At least this year, we have a clue what we are doing which is a big step for us.  We are shopping this weekend and will take care of most of Brian’s (our son) stuff.
There was one other thing that I forgot about doing in Dallas growing up.  Going to the downtown Neiman Marcus store once it was decorated.  Then after that my mom, grandmother and I would have lunch at The Zodiac Room.  I thought I was all grown up having lunch there.  I will never forget their strawberry butter or their chocolate chip cookies.  Plus, when you are 8 years old it was pretty impressive to use a starched white napkin.  :)  Sadly, I don’t do this tradition anymore.  My grandmother died in 2006 and my own mother is housebound.  My mom would also buy one ornament that represented my dad, my younger brother, herself and me.  I still have my ornaments and proudly display them on my own tree.  I can’t imagine why I have so many penguins but I do.  He He!
My recipe today is a simple one and you don’t even have to write it down.  My grandmother made the BEST chocolate chip cookies EVER!  As a child, I never actually watched her make them.  They were just always around.  When I got to be a teenager she shared her secret.  Are you ready for it?
She used the recipe on the back of the package of Nestle Toll House Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips.  *thud*  I know, right?  The only variation was that she liked Dark Brown Sugar and make equal batches with and without pecans.  My uncle loved pecans in his cookies.
So there you have it.  The secret recipe to awesome chocolate chip cookies.  This recipe is the only recipe I use when making these cookies.  It didn’t fail my grandmother and it hasn’t failed me.  One thing…I don’t use pecans in my cookies.

I can not believe that we only have 42 days left until Christmas morning.  *head desk*  Still nothing bought yet.  I know that some people already have their shopping done.  Not us.  At least this year, we have a clue what we are doing which is a big step for us.
Okay, yesterday I depressed you but today I’m bringing some holiday cheer.  I grew up in Dallas, TX without a white Christmas but that’s okay.  I still have memories of the Ice Storm that hit Dallas in 1977.  City shut down for two weeks.  It was bad.  No school and a lot of our friends didn’t have electricity.  I remember that we had people at the house all the time.  Either eating, showering or just trying to stay warm.  If you had natural gas you were good but if not…In fact, my tenth birthday party was almost cancelled due to the ice but somehow it changed into a slumber party to make it easier for my friends to show up.  Good times…
Any way, seeing Christmas lights in Dallas is a treat.  Up until we moved to the sticks in 2006, I still made the trip to Swiss Avenue to see how the mansions were decorated.  Plus, rode the carriage in Highland Park to see how they decorated.  My dad used to say, “Let’s see how the servants decorated this year.”  LOL!  Plus, I still had my picture taken with the North Park Mall Santa.  Yes, say what you will but that was the only one I saw every year.  Again…good times.
So as you can see, I do have great memories of the holidays and I think of them often when I get blue.  Just wish I didn’t live far away so I can share them with our son.
The recipe for today is a layered salad that you make the day before and keep it in the icebox until ready to serve.
Layered Salad
One bag of frozen peas
One head of either iceberg or romaine lettuce
One package of bacon, cooked and crumbled
One can of sliced watercress nuts, drained
One package of shredded cheese
One purple onion either chopped or sliced
Pecans (my grandmother had a pecan tree so we ate a lot of pecans)
Salt and pepper
Mayo or Miracle Whip  (I’ve used both.  Just depends on your preference)
Here are the layers that you will have:
Lettuce, bacon, watercress nuts, onion, cheese, peas, salt and pepper, mayo
You will continue this until you have used all the ingredients.  VERY IMPORTANT:  Do not mix until ready to serve.  You need the ingredients to marry together.  Of course, you can use all kinds of spices to your liking.  Dill is good and a family favorite.
When ready to serve, mix well.  The secret to this dish is the layering and it being presented at the table/buffet NOT mixed.  The colors are beautiful to see.  Enjoy.
Here is a tidbit from my YA:

Blog Entry for September 29th

When did my life become so complicated?  I’m only 17 years old and torn between two boys.  Seriously?  And quit singing the song Torn Between Lovers.  I abhor that song and I’m still a virgin thank you very much.  UGH!

Let me start from the beginning.  One boy lives in Dallas, where I live and he is my boyfriend.  Geoff is great and we’ve known each other since the 4th grade.  We only started dating our senior year and are having fun together.  I’m comfortable with him and he makes me feel good.  Since I’m on the drill team and he is in band, we see a lot of each other during the wee early morning hours of football season.  Trust me that will test any relationship when you have to see your boyfriend with hot rollers and a scarf in your hair.

Another thing about Geoff and I, most people have predicted that at our 10 year reunion that we’ll be married, with 2.5 kids and I’ll be president of the PTA.  This prediction scares the crap out of me.  Truly it does.  I mean, can you really predict ten years after high school?  I’m just trying to make it the weekend and through our tough routine for our halftime show.  Plus, I have to work on Saturday all day because of the game on Friday.  My only concerns now are finishing my homework, writing in own my blog and not killing my younger brother.  Not getting married and having babies.  I think sex would be good, though.  Okay…mind out of gutter.

So what do you think?  Any feedback is good…I can take it!

I do have to admit that I get the blues pretty bad around the holidays.  Don’t get me wrong.  I have great and awesome memories of Christmas in the past growing up.  My problem is the present or at least since I’ve been married.  The holiday revolves around my husband and his family.  My traditions mean nothing to him or his family.  They have forgotten that I’m the daughter in law with a very large extended family that I NEVER see because of their selfishness and it hurts.  I love my in laws to death and get along with them but Christmas is a huge problem with me.
Santa Claus doesn’t visit their house; he visits our house.  Yes, we make our son wait until AFTER Christmas to see what Santa has brought.  (I won that round)  I only put a tree as our only decoration.  Nor do I bake, send cards, etc.  I’m Scrooge with a capital S but I do make the holiday fun for our son.  He sees Santa, shops with me and his dad and sings every Christmas song…badly.  LOL!
Anyway, on a much brighter note…I will be featuring some of my favorite recipes that I have devoured and cooked since I was little girl for Christmas.  See, I’m not that big of a Scrooge.
Cool Whip Salad
1 container of Cool Whip
1 box of any color Jello gelatin, don’t make it.  It’s just for color.
1 can (drained) of fruit (I use mixed fruit so we can fight over who gets the cherries)  LOL!
1 8 oz container of cottage cheese (drained and rinsed)
1 bag of small marshmallows for garnish
In large bowl combine all ingredients.  Chill overnight.  When ready to serve, sprinkle marshmallows on the top.
You can double the recipe, too.  I’ve seen some people put pecans/walnuts in the salad but I don’t.
Easy peasy.  If you don’t do cottage cheese, ricotta cheese works just as well.
Join me tomorrow for another recipe and an excerpt from a YA story that I’m working on.  Yes, you read that right…a YA story.

I’d like to introduce you to Noah and River. They have a long history together.

Something Blue- The Guardian Agency Series Book 2

By Ursula Sinclair

Blurb

What happens when dreams come true, but it’s not all it was supposed to be?

River Blu’s music has made her the stuff of legend, she’s every bit a rock star who dominates the pop charts. But through the years a secret haunts her, making it impossible to give her heart to anyone or anything other than her music.

When River’s life is in danger she turns to Noah for help. They have a history together, one he’d like to repeat, with a different ending. But first he has to figure out who from her past is trying to kill her.

Excerpt

He’d followed her from the hotel. It was so easy. He stayed behind the paparazzi vehicle. When the dark limo turned into the driveway of a church, the move surprised him, but he didn’t slow down or make the mistake of following them. The van of so-called photographers tried to pull in, but someone stood at the entrance, stopping them from going any further. He drove yards beyond the driveway, checking his rearview mirror to make sure her car hadn’t just tried to turn around.

A small sedan pulled out of a parking spot down the road a bit, and he took it. He turned off the car, grabbed his camera, and headed back toward the church. Just another asshole trying to get a shot of a rock queen.

The paparazzi van and an SUV with two other photographers stopped just beyond the entrance. Like parasites, they spilled out and lined the sidewalk in front of the church. Fighting for the best angle, they shot wildly at whoever stepped out of the limo and went into the church. Crossing the street, he walked down the sidewalk past the entrance to the church until he’d circled around to the alley behind the building. A few cars were parked in the church parking lot, and besides the two men posted at the gate, another stood at the rear entrance. The entire setup looked like a wedding or some shit. As long as it wasn’t her wedding, he didn’t give a damn. Besides, that bastard boyfriend of hers was in jail. Good. One less person in his way.

After walking a full circle around the block, he returned to his car. He’d spotted a better parking spot and moved the car there. His new location gave him a clear view of the entrance to the parking lot as well as the front of the church. Tonight was the night; she was finally where he could reach her. Time for him to act. He’d stay a few more minutes, just to make sure they weren’t leaving right away, and then he’d return to the hotel before she did. Sooner or later, she’d show up, and he’d be waiting. He wondered if she ever thought about him.

LaVerne Thompson is the author of several works in the contemporary, fantasy and sci/fi genres. She also writes romantic suspense with an edge under her alter ego Ursula Sinclair. She loves to hear from readers.
