Author Interview of Diana Ames featuring Royally Trained (A Royals of Colania Novel) w/a GC Rafflecopter giveaway
In a country stuck in the dark ages is a world filled with sex and scandal. Governed by royalty, those in power have many deep-rooted secrets that span generations.
Prince Anton’s sordid past has forged his future. He finds his only pleasure from being a sadist, but he knows he must continue the royal bloodline and create an heir for his country. Forced by responsibility, he turns to the one man who can give him the best of both worlds. But will Prince Anton find what he’s searching for?
Damian is the ruler of The Dungeon. He is the Teacher, and the only man Prince Anton can trust to provide him with what he needs. He is on a mission to find a virgin submissive to become the prince’s life partner. What happens when the Teacher falls for the woman he’s been ordered to train?
As lust and love spiral out of control, Prince Anton and Damian find their lives change unexpectedly because of one independent and defiant woman.
Damian was going over the alcohol shipment that had arrived this morning. One of the reasons his sex clubs were so popular was because of the liquor he had shipped in from the mainland. It was expensive, but the quality was much greater than anything produced on Colania. Currently though, it was giving him a headache. He was missing a case of the high-end scotch he kept on hand.
Prince Anton strutted into his office without warning.
“Don’t you knock?” Damian said scathingly.
“Didn’t know I needed to,” Prince Anton replied.
“With all due respect, sire,” Damian said sarcastically, “this is my office in my club. Next time, knock.” Damian rose to his feet, his body fluid like a great jungle cat, before he went to embrace his prince. “Now, what the hell is so important you had to schedule an appointment?”
“I have a job for you,” Prince Anton told him. He returned the one-arm embrace stiffly and then moved away with haste. He was uncomfortable with physical contact that he didn’t initiate or control. When the two men sat, he elaborated. “My thirtieth birthday is approaching.”
“In a year and a half.” Damian snorted. “Do you think it wise to skip twenty-nine?”
“As the last of the monarchy, it is my job to reproduce,” Prince Anton continued. “As much as I would like to see the genes that have shaped me die out, the country would fall into a tailspin. Although we are remote and somewhat undeveloped, we are a rich nation. The power I hold is all that keeps us out of the eye of the world and off the radar for those who would oppress us.”
“What does this have to do with me?” Damian asked warily.
“I have no desire to repeat history,” Prince Anton said. “We both know that my sexual nature is more like that of the queen than my father.”
“Do you want me to train you?” Damian asked, confused. “To help you learn to control your appetite?”
“No,” Prince Anton said firmly. “I don’t think either of us could handle taking our relationship to that level.”
The two men had grown up together, which accounted for Damian’s lack of respect and boundaries, but Prince Anton wanted to maintain formality between them.
“You could be right,” Damian said with a light chuckle. “So, what do you want from me?”
“I want you to find her, the woman who will bear the future of the country,” Prince Anton said. “Find her and train her to be what I need.”
“You can’t just order up a woman on demand,” Damian told him with a raised eyebrow.
“You must find a woman with good genetics although Gilly can look into that after the candidate meets the other criteria,” the prince said, ignoring Damian. “Beautiful, obviously. I’m not particular with features, but it stands to reason if my life mate is attractive, then I will have a better chance with reproduction. I’d also prefer that she not have a single drop of royal blood regardless of past royal practices. I do not wish to produce monsters or further any imperfections through inbreeding, however distant the connection might be. She needs to be completely submissive. I will be in control of any encounters at all times. Whoever she is, she must be willing to leave her past life behind. I refuse to be burdened with in-laws who might not agree with my domination of their daughter.”
“That’s quite a shopping list,” Damian said, eyeing the prince harshly. “Anything else you’d like to add before I order a woman for you?”
“There is one more requirement,” Prince Anton said seriously. “And this is perhaps the most important of all. She must be a virgin.”
“You do realize when I train a woman to cede her control to her master that I have sex with her?” Damian asked incredulously. “Submissives have to learn to respond on command; an untried woman will not have that opportunity.”
“I will not have a woman who has felt a man between her thighs before me. I will not have my children born to a woman who will behave as my mother did. She must be pure!” Prince Anton roared.
“If I refuse to do this…” Damian didn’t finish the question.
“You will not refuse,” Prince Anton said, rising to his feet. “I expect you at the castle within the week. The search begins immediately.”
Welcome Diana Ames! Please start off by telling us a little about yourself.
I’m a 35 year old wife and mother of two. I was a stay at home mother while my kids were small, but now that they’re both in school all day, I work part time in an office. I write at night or whenever I can grab a few minutes of quiet. I love the outdoors and my family camps for several weeks each summer.
Is Royally Trained a single title, or part of a series?
Royally Trained is the first book in a three book series—three books so far, that is. Each book can stand alone, but if you read them all, I recommend reading them in order as they build on each other.
What were your inspirations for the story?
I wanted to write something I would enjoy reading. I’d been very frustrated with female characters that constantly need a man to save them or that can’t stand up for themselves. It’s wonderful to have a partner to lean on, but honestly I can’t imagine anyone being so completely helpless. Likewise I was having issues with reading about strong male characters who were broken on the inside and then one moment changes their entire life, their perspective, even their personalities. There is almost always a catalyst moment for someone to change, but rarely is it possible for that change to happen in a single moment or without a lot of hard work and professional help.
Please share your setting for Royally Trained. Have you ever lived or visited there? If so, what did you like most?
Royally Trained takes place on the fictitious island country called Colania. I’ve lived there in my mind and I visit there frequently as I’m editing. I chose to create a country because I wanted to take some real liberties with the setting that wouldn’t be possible otherwise. Plus I really wanted to write about a king or in this case a crown prince. I was going for realism in personalities, but who wants things to be too real.
When did the writing bug first bite?
I’ve been writing as long as I’ve been able to hold a pencil and form words.
Who are you favorite authors, book/series?
There are so many that I love, but to name a few:
V.C. Andrews—The Dollanganger Series (Flowers In The Attic) and The Casteel Series (Heaven)
J.R. Ward—The Blackdagger Brotherhood Series
Stephen King—The Dark Tower Series
Johanna Lindsey has always been a favorite.
I also recently read Hers by Dawn Robertson. Now there was a female character that didn’t need rescued.
The list could go on and on.
If you could have an author roundtable discussion with any authors, who would you invite?
See the above list of favorite authors. J
Do you have any hobbies or special things you like to do in your spare time?
Spare time, I’m not sure I know what that is. I’m a dance mom and a karate mom and a working mom and a writing mom and a…see the trend? In the middle of the night, when everyone is asleep, though, you’ll often find me dancing in my living room.
What’s the strangest thing you’ve heard or seen?
When I was about 14 or 15, I was lying in bed reading. The light was to my back, up on the wall. This shadow in the shape of a person fell across my book and bed, which was strange because I always kept my door locked. When I turned around, no one was there.

Bella Key by Scarlet Chastain
Release Date: May 3rd
from Evernight Publishing
Maddie Jacobs must be crazy. At least that’s what her mother thinks. Professionally, she’s confident and secure; personally, she’s a hot mess. Not even a marriage proposal from a man who adores her can quell her search for something more.
In need of an escape, Maddie flees to Key West’s most southern island, Bella Key, to rest and recharge at Casa Bonita. She almost gives up on weekend retreat when the Bed & Breakfast is closed for repairs until Sunny Rojas, the inn owner, extends an offer of friendship, sweet tea and a room. Still reeling from a breakup with her longtime partner, Sunny is thankful for the diversion from her own broken heart.
The arrival of a fierce storm forces the women’s emotional journey to a head and leads them into each other’s arms. But can Maddie throw her hangups to the wind and go with her heart? The magic of Bella Key teaches her that passion cannot be placed neatly into boxes labeled right and wrong, because love knows no boundaries.
Sunny walked toward the slim form sitting on a bench facing the water. The reds and oranges of the sunset played off Maddie’s golden hair. Sunny’s fingers itched to smooth a wisp of hair blowing in the early evening breeze. An overwhelming feeling of desire to wrap her arms around the woman, guide her head to her shoulder and stroke her hair while she whispered ‘everything will work out’ ran through her head.
“It’s stunning, isn’t it?” She nodded at the horizon when Maddie looked up. “I never get tired of watching Key West sunsets. Each one is different. I come down here a lot to think, or when I have a decision to make. There’s something about the sunset that puts things into perspective.” Sunny stared at the glowing orange sun disappearing into the wide expanse of sea. “Here, I brought you some more of the sweet tea you liked earlier.”
Maddie took the glass from her, and the brush of her fingertips along the back of Sunny’s hand sent her nerve endings on overdrive. Sunny leaned on the back of the bench, supporting her weight with arms. “I spent much time down here dealing with the same situation. My guy’s name was Emilio.”
Maddie’s head cocked to the side. “Emilio? I thought you were—”
“A lesbian?” Sunny snorted. “I don’t really think of it as liking one sex versus another. I’m attracted to the person, you know, what’s inside. But, yes, since Emilio I’ve only been with women. Leaving him was hard. We met in college and he wanted to get married after graduation. Asked my parents and everything.” Sunny chuckled, remembering the disappointment reflected in her mother’s eyes when she told her they’d broken up.
Maddie turned and put her feet on the seat of the bench, drawing her knees to her chest. “What happened?”
“I’ll tell you what didn’t happen, chica. The world didn’t end. Emilio found someone else and is happily married with a couple of kids. My mother not only got over the fact that l broke up with Emilio, but she accepts the fact that my goals in life aren’t the same as hers. You see, those who really care about you just want to see you happy. What you need to figure out is what makes you happy.”

Okay, I can be completely stupid sometimes. I know, shocking but I was cruising Goodreads last night and look what I found:
Basically, I’m now #251 out of #512 in the Listopia of Best New Author Books. Okay, didn’t know this existed and Holy Cow!!! The reviews have been very good on Goodreads, too.
I won’t talk about my ranking over at Amazon…its sad, very sad but again, the reviews have been excellent. I still don’t know if the book has made a dime and won’t until next month.
Anyway, just thought I would share my good news.
He’s pretty, isn’t he?
Okay, that wasn’t the question, sorry but feel free to comment. :)
Here’s the question:
For readers: What draws you to read a book? Length? Cover? Blurb? Author name?
For authors: When you were a debut author, what got readers to your book?
The reason I’m asking these questions is because hardly anyone is reading my debut. I know, I know, its been out a month and it takes awhile for people to find it. I’ve already heard these from authors…you need a back list, don’t worry about your debut, concentrate on your next book, promo, promo, promo, did you have a mentor when you wrote the book (no I did not), have you joined a writer’s blog (tried but I’ve been rejected more times than I can count).
That’s all well and good and great advice but consider these facts that I have realized:
1. No one pays that much attention to me on FB or Twitter, so any and all promo that I have done is ignored.
2. I have/had ARC copies of my book and no one wanted them.
3. I realize that my book is only 20 pages, it won’t win the Pulitzer but I’m proud of it.
4. I know that most reviewers are backed up. It happens, trust me.
5. I know that the playing field is crowded out there with books, so I’m not sure how to stand out.
6. I don’t have a posse. Maybe I should get one…
You are probably thinking that I have sour grapes and in some respects I do. It hurts when you do something that most people wouldn’t dream of doing, you are proud of it and it seems that no one cares. It hurts that I have done everything right so far and nothing. Nada…zip…crickets chirping.
Well, I know that there are people who have read it and liked it. In fact I was told that I actually mislead them into thinking it was just hot and spicy and its more than that. ;)
I have two blog tours that will start next month and I will post every day where I am for that day. Hopefully, people will find me on the tours and want to read the book. It’s all I can hope for now.
Have a great weekend y’all.
When I contacted by Mamie’s publicist at Simon and Schuster, I couldn’t breath. I mean, seriously? I’m a nobody in the reviewing world but some how I was contacted. Simon and Schuster is big. This is Mamie’s debut novel and I’ve already started reading it. Good lord…bring a hose, a toy or two and have your partner on standby. Harlie’s Books will be reviewing it on Monday, January 7th. *wipes brow*
